Ponds

A backyard pond isn’t just a feature — it’s a living ecosystem. We design and build balanced water gardens that stay clear, look natural, and are built to handle Colorado seasons.

A natural ecosystem that stays cleaner with less maintenance — balanced filtration, plants, and circulation working together.

What Our Clients Are Saying

We had 5 basalt columns surrounded by rock installed in an old basin from a prior fountain and the price/quality of work from Purely Ponds was amazing. Chris and his team did the job in 2 days and we could not be happier. They are kind, reasonable and highly recommended. We called many places in the area and Purely ponds is hands down the place to go if you are wanting a water feature in Colorado Springs.

Five Fountains HOA

Chris has the vision, creativity and expertise needed to create masterpiece water features. We had to wait patiently for our turn, but once he and his crew started, they were done in less than a week. We are delighted with the result and enjoy coffee or lunch or a glass of wine on our deck where we can enjoy the sights and sounds of our water feature. Highly recommended!!!

Chris is a master artist! I never expected to see such a beautiful pond on my property. Chris came out to see what may be possible and with in minutes I knew he was the man for the job. His artistry with stone and water produced a magnificent pond and falls. I have spent hours admiring his work, the sound and the appearance. Each time I step out to the pond I find something else to enjoy, a small fish cave or special rock placement above the water that is interesting.

What’s Included

A professionally built backyard pond is a complete, ecologically balanced waterscape — not a hole filled with water. When it’s done right, the pond becomes a working ecosystem that stays cleaner, looks more natural, and requires far less babysitting.

Every build is centered on five core components that work together:

  • Mechanical + biological filtration to remove debris and support clean water
  • Rocks and gravel to create a natural look while supporting beneficial bacteria
  • Aquatic plants that add beauty and help balance the pond
  • Fish (optional) that support the ecosystem and bring the pond to life
  • A recirculating system that keeps water moving, oxygenated, and visually engaging

We build ponds with a polyethylene underlayment and a 45 mil fish-safe EPDM rubber liner for long-term durability. Then we finish it the right way: granite boulders and gravel are installed to lock everything into place, while the liner, plumbing, filters, and mechanical components are concealed so the pond looks natural — not “installed.”

The result is a true focal point that engages all the senses. The sound of moving water changes the feel of your entire outdoor space. Aquatic plants add texture and color with surprisingly low upkeep. And if you choose to add fish, they bring endless movement, sparkle, and personality — while also helping support a healthier ecosystem.

If you want a pond that looks incredible on day one and still looks incredible years from now, this is the standard.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How much does it cost to install a pond?

A: Pond pricing depends on size, access, materials, and complexity. Smaller ponds can start around $9,000 and includes excavation, stone, plumbing and filtration. The fastest way to get a realistic range is to request an estimate and share a few photos of the space.

Q: Do I need a permit to install a pond?

A: Sometimes. Many municipalities have limits based on depth and surface area. If your project may cross a threshold, we’ll flag it early and help you confirm what your city/county requires.

Q: How deep should a pond be in Colorado?

A: Depth depends on goals (plants-only vs fish) and sun exposure, but as a general rule a healthy pond should be at least 18-24 inches deep to help avoid temperature extremes. If you want fish, depth and layout usually need more planning for seasonal stability.

Q: Are ponds high maintenance?

A: They can be if they’re built like decorative basins. Ecosystem ponds are designed to be more stable because filtration, rock/gravel, plants, and circulation work together. You’ll still have routine upkeep (skimming and seasonal cleanouts), but the “constant fight” is dramatically reduced when the system is built correctly.

Q: What areas do you serve for installations?

A: We install water features in Colorado Springs, El Paso County, Southern Douglas County, and the surrounding area.

Q: How long does a typical installation take?

A: Most installs take anywhere from a couple days to a couple weeks, depending on scope, access, and complexity. We’ll give you a realistic timeline after we review your project details.

Q: Do you offer maintenance services?

A: Our focus is new installs and maintenance. If you’re looking for product help or ongoing care guidance, we can recommend the right products through our store.

Q: What happens after I request an estimate?

A: We’ll contact you within 1 business day to confirm a few details, then guide you through the next step (photos, site details, design direction, and a realistic estimate range).
